Scheduling your first therapy session is one of the bravest things you can do. It’s also one of the most nerve-wracking. If you’ve never done therapy before — or if you’ve never done it online — it’s completely normal to wonder what you’re walking into. So let’s take the mystery out of it.
At CenTex Therapies, every new client relationship starts the same way: with a conversation. Not an interrogation. Not a diagnosis. Just two people connecting so we can understand how to help you best.

Before Your Session
Once you schedule your appointment through our website or by phone, you’ll receive intake paperwork to complete before your first session. This covers basic information about your background, what brings you to therapy, and your goals. Filling this out ahead of time means we can spend your actual session time on what matters — you.
You’ll also receive a secure link for your video session. All you need is a private space and a reliable internet connection. A laptop or tablet works best, but a phone works too.
During the Session
Your first session is typically about 45-60 minutes. Here’s what usually happens: your therapist will introduce themselves and explain how the process works. They’ll ask about what brought you to therapy and what you’re hoping to get out of it. You’ll talk about your background — as much or as little as feels comfortable. Together, you’ll start forming a plan for your work together.
There’s no pressure to share everything in the first session. Building trust takes time, and your therapist understands that. Think of it like planting seeds — you don’t harvest on planting day.
After Your Session
Most people leave their first session feeling a mix of relief and hope. Relief that it wasn’t as scary as they expected, and hope that things can actually get better. Your therapist may suggest a frequency for sessions — weekly is most common to start — and you’ll schedule your next appointment.
