ADHD Assessment in Texas

Wondering whether ADHD explains what you’ve been dealing with? A clinical assessment gives you a real answer instead of another internet quiz.

Is It ADHD, or Is It Something Else?

You’ve probably taken one of those online quizzes by now. Maybe a few of them. They told you what you already suspected, then left you exactly where you started, wondering whether any of this is real or whether you’re just bad at being an adult.

An online screener works about as well as a check engine light. It can tell you something’s off. It can’t tell you what, and it can’t tell you what to do about it. That distinction matters more than most people realize, because plenty of things look like ADHD from the outside. Anxiety scatters your attention. Depression drains your follow through. Trauma keeps your brain scanning the room instead of reading the page. Poor sleep will hollow out your working memory faster than almost anything else. Each of those needs a different kind of help, so guessing gets expensive in ways that are hard to see until years have already gone by.

An assessment is how you stop guessing.

What an ADHD Assessment Involves

It starts with a conversation rather than a form. We talk through what’s happening now and we go back to childhood, because ADHD doesn’t appear out of nowhere in your thirties. Often the clearest evidence is sitting in an old report card comment or in a story your mother still tells about you.

From there we use validated screening instruments, look at how symptoms show up across the different parts of your life, and work through the other explanations that deserve to be ruled out before anyone puts a label on anything. Then we sit down together and go through what the results actually mean, in plain language, with room for your questions.

You walk away with:

  • A clear answer about whether what you’re experiencing meets criteria for ADHD
  • An understanding of which presentation it is and how it shows up for you specifically
  • Documentation of the clinical diagnosis
  • Treatment recommendations built around your actual life
  • A straight answer about anything we found that falls outside ADHD

All of it happens virtually, anywhere in Texas. You don’t need to live near Killeen to get this done.

What We Can Tell You, and What We Can’t

Manny Tamarez is a Licensed Professional Counselor who holds the ADHD-CCSP certification, which means dedicated training in how ADHD presents and how it gets treated. As an LPC he can evaluate you and provide a clinical diagnosis. That’s the diagnosis that opens the door to therapy, to a more useful conversation with your employer and to a referral if medication is worth exploring.

Here’s the part a lot of practices leave out. What happens here is clinical assessment and diagnosis, which is a different thing from psychological testing. Full neuropsychological batteries, the kind that produce processing speed and IQ scores across a stack of timed subtests, are performed by licensed psychologists. Certain universities and certain employers will accept nothing else before they approve accommodations. If that turns out to be what your situation calls for, we’ll tell you early and point you toward someone who does that work. We’re not going to take your money and leave you holding paperwork that doesn’t do the job.

We also don’t prescribe. Counselors in Texas can’t. If medication becomes worth considering, we provide your documentation and coordinate with your physician or a psychiatric provider so that nobody is starting from scratch.

What Happens After You Have an Answer

A diagnosis by itself changes very little. What changes things is what you build on top of it. Think of the assessment as finally getting the manual for a machine you’ve been operating by guesswork for twenty years. The machine was never broken. You just never got the documentation.

If the assessment points to ADHD, our ADHD counseling work picks up from exactly that point, with executive functioning strategies, emotional regulation and practical coaching built for how your brain actually operates.

If it points somewhere else, that’s still a good day. Knowing it’s anxiety or depression or the aftermath of something you lived through means you can finally treat the right thing. Our assessment and diagnosis work covers those conditions as well, and individual counseling is where most people go from there.

Either way you leave with information you didn’t have before, and a direction to walk in.
