Counseling That Understands Military Life

Military family counseling at CenTex Therapies is telehealth support for the stress that comes with service: deployments and reintegration, PCS moves, the transition out of uniform, and the strain all of it puts on marriages, parenting, and sleep. Sessions are online, so you can meet with a licensed counselor from home, from the barracks, or from wherever a quiet hour happens to be.

Our founder is a veteran, and our practice grew up next to Fort Hood. We do not need the acronyms explained, and we do not treat a deployment cycle as an abstract idea. That shared language matters, because the hardest part of asking for help is often having to translate your life for someone first.

We work with adults, including:

  • Active-duty service members managing stress, anger, sleep, or anxiety
  • Veterans navigating the shift to civilian work, school, and identity
  • Military spouses carrying the household through deployments and reintegration
  • Couples rebuilding connection after time apart (we see partners individually and together)
  • Guard and Reserve members balancing drill, civilian jobs, and family
  • Adults with ADHD or trauma histories that the structure of military life used to hold in check

Our Approach

We use evidence-based approaches, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills and trauma-informed care, matched to what you are actually dealing with. For some people that means practical tools for anger, sleep, and emotional regulation. For others it means working through what happened downrange, or finding footing after the uniform comes off. You set the pace.

Many of the service members and veterans we see also live with ADHD, and the loss of military structure can make it far more visible. If that sounds familiar, our ADHD counseling and ADHD assessment services are built for exactly that. For intense emotions and high-conflict relationships, DBT therapy gives you concrete skills to use in the moment. General support for anxiety, depression, grief, and life transitions is available through individual counseling.

Your sessions are confidential within the limits of Texas law and professional ethics. We will walk through exactly what that means in your first session, so there are no surprises.

We are currently accepting new clients. If you have been carrying this on your own because getting help felt complicated, it does not have to be.

Common Questions

Does TriCare cover online counseling with CenTex Therapies?

Yes. CenTex Therapies is in network with TriCare, and telehealth counseling is a covered outpatient mental health service. Your cost share depends on your plan and your sponsor’s status, so we confirm your coverage before your first session.

Do I need a referral?

Active-duty service members usually need a referral from their primary care manager before seeing a civilian provider. Family members on TriCare Prime or TriCare Select generally do not need a referral for outpatient mental health care. TriCare rules change, so we recommend confirming with TriCare or asking us; we check this for every new client.

Can I see a counselor while I am stationed at Fort Hood but living off post?

Yes. Our care is 100% virtual, so you can meet from anywhere in Texas. The only requirement is that you are physically located in Texas at the time of your session, because our counselors are licensed in Texas.

Do you work with military spouses and partners, not just the service member?

Yes. Spouses and partners often carry the heaviest part of a deployment cycle, and they are welcome to come on their own. We also see couples together when both partners want to work on reconnecting.

Will my command find out I am in counseling?

We are a civilian practice, and your records are protected by Texas law and professional ethics. There are specific, limited situations where a counselor is required to share information, and we explain each one plainly in your first session so you can make an informed decision about what you share.

If you or someone you love is in crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) and press 1 for the Veterans Crisis Line, or call 911. CenTex Therapies provides scheduled telehealth counseling and is not an emergency service.
